Protecting Your Computer From Identity Theft

It is a frighteningly common practice for people to have extremely sensitive personal information on their computer or have a business with all the vital company information on our company computer. We all do it.

If someone is able to access your computer, he/she has access to everything on your hard drive. They have access to your login information, your “secret” passwords, etc. Whoops!

Most of your files probably contain credit card numbers, account numbers, passwords, photographs, addresses, phone numbers, and any number of very sensitive personal information. There are new ways that you can protect this valuable information.

Recently a news bulletin reported that people had turned in their computers to one of the nationally known computer companies and they had left all their personal information on their hard drive. Don’t let this happen to you!

Identity Theft Software

By installing simple, inexpensive software you can prevent the worst scenario from happening to you, saving you much grief.

If you were to donate or recycle your computer, the chances are very great that someone could steal your identity, unless you have your computer protected.

The very next person who boots up your old computer can easily obtain the last owner's personal information such as, bank statements, account numbers, and even mortgage information.

Make sure you use identity theft software to make sure an ID thief cannot access your computer information. As added protection, be sure to wipe your HD clean before passing your computer on.

This information is an identity thief's dream and the thief can do unbelievable damage with all this information. Seriously.

Special Identity Theft Software For Your Computer

I know in this day and age, personal information on your computer is the way most people operate, and I am no different; however, I take steps to protect myself as much as possible with home security software.

Password Protection

The first most important step is to protect all your sensitive information and documents with a unique password. Consider using symbols such as the money sign, and varying the amount of lower and upper case letters. Best practice is to also use numbers in your passwords.

Do NOT store your personal information on a web site or e-mail files. The identity thief can use web site links in e-mails to get the recipient to divulge your personal information. Remember this is the age of the ”world wide web” (www) and anyone anytime may be able to hack in and get your stored information.

Laptops Are Easily Lifted

If your laptop is lost or stolen, all your personal information on the hard drive is gone with it and can be compromised. Make frequent backups of your HD and keep these in a safe place. Protect your computer with ID Protection software.

Identity theft can happen to anyone at any time. You can be standing in line at the store, surfing the web online at home or when you're at the local coffee house ordering your morning coffee. Along with the pain it can bring are the numerous hours you will spend cleaning up your credit and struggling to get back your good name.

That's because your stolen identity could very well be used more than 30 times, with most victims only discovering the theft after they've been turned down for a loan or contacted by a collection agency.

You may already be a victim, and not even know it.
